ABOUT THE EIC CY691

The European Commission (DG Enterprise) in recognition of the tremendous importance of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises for the economic and social development of Europe has established the Network of European Information Centres for Enterprises in order to help them to be informed about community activity and to support their effort to maintain their competitiveness.

In Cyprus the European Information Centre for Enterprises (Euro Info Centre) is operating at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI), and its main activities are:

  • To inform the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) about matters of Community interest, such as general activities of the organs of the European Commission and the programmes funded by the Community.

  • To advise the enterprises on matters of community legislation (directives, regulations, decisions, proposals) as well as about legislations of member states of EU.

  • To reply in time to questions submitted by enterprises which are referring to matters which arise from the accession of Cyprus to the EU.

  • To cooperate with local and foreign agencies for the purpose of disseminating information and facilitating access of businesses to Community programmes. Already it is closely co-operating with the Delegation of the European Commission in Cyprus and also with all the institutional organs of the European Union in Brussels and Luxembourg.

  • To help the enterprises to find associates from countries within or outside the EU.

  • To organize information meetings in specified subjects and to participate in various events providing information material about the EU.

  • To provide information about the status of establishment and operation of enterprises in other EU member states.

The intensive activity of the Centre in all the above fields continued also during the period under review especially in view of the accession of Cyprus to the EU.
